CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

FLORAL GARLAND WORKSHOP
(One Day Workshop - 9 AM - 4:30PM ) ALSTEAD, NH

We love these Garland workshops and why not do one that incorporates other items in addition to flowers, little pumpkins, apples, dare we do grapes? A great way to ready your home for the holidays, or make your garland into a wild neck ornament! Hand shaping wet felting techniques to form flower shapes.
BRING WITH YOU: Towel (to wrap your wet pieces in) and shoes/clothing which may get wet.

Color Theory
(One Day Workshop - 9 AM - 4:30PM ) ALSTEAD, NH

This class is for anyone interested in color planning or color theory in general. I have been asked so often by my students and customers how I do color, where I get my inspiration, why did I pick a certain color and so on. This class is the opportunity to find out how it all works! Students learn to use the color wheel, how to make "color combinations", why some colors work better than others, what is value and hue? What the heck is a throw color? We will work on paper and with fiber swatches throughout the day creating endless glorious color ideas. All materials and a gourmet country lunch are included. Basic paint colors and brushes, a color wheel, paper, fiber and handouts will be supplied. If you have your own paint set or colored pencils feelfree to bring them along; also stapler, tape, color journal.

This is a great class where beginners and experienced felters explore different felt applications. Techniques explored will be flat patterned felt, hand shaped objects (flowers), resists/pockets (handbags or pillows) and attachments, feather weight felting, cobweb and lattice (scarves) Day One of this session will be making small samples of these many different felt effects and techniques. Day Two students choose a technique (or a combination of favorites) to do a larger project of their choice.

Felt For the Home
(Two Day Workshop - 9:30AM-4:30PM each day) ALSTEAD, NH

A favorite session where we create 3 to 4 felt projects over two days to decorate your home or adorn your body! We make floral garlands, flat patterned placemats, wall hangings and a seamless pillow (or bag).
BRING WITH YOU: Rubber/latex gloves, towel and shoes/clothing which may get wet.

Join our summer tradition and do a Rug Stomp! In our most popular workshop students design and make a small felt rug. During the first day, design, balance and color relationships are explored, the rugs are laid out. The second day is full wet felting, patting, rubbing, tippy-toeing and stomping, then hand rolling and fulling our masterpieces.

Make a Festive Ottoman
(Three Day Workshop - 9:30AM-4:30PM each day) ALSTEAD, NH

I have been asked so often if I can do a class for students to make their own upholstery fabrics. Since most people like going home with something usable I have the most perfect solution! In this three day class, the students design and make a small round ottoman measuring 12" R x 16" H, make the felt fabric, assemble the core of the ottoman, and stitch and assemble their own ottoman. Day One: Design, Day Two: lay out and felt two pieces of fabric, and any add-on accessories (like flowers), Day Three: Assemble. All materials included: ottoman core (unassembled), caster wheels and screws, foam, sewing machine & thread, fiber for felt.

Dyers Intensive
(One Day Workshop - 9AM-4:30PM) ALSTEAD, NH

Felters, Knitters and Rug Hookers alike! I am a dye as you go, non formula kind of dyer. I will introduce non dyers to Pro Chem Wash Fast Acid Dyes, and procedure, as well as references to formula dyes with Cushing Dyes. Discussion on Color theory and use of the color wheel will also be part of the day. Students will learn to dye wool, fiber, roving, batting and yarn. Solid batch dyeing for your batting, and smaller painted dyeing for your roving (yarn for knitters/wool fabric for hookers) Each student will have their own dyepot, AM is Batch and PM is Painted, alternate pots will be placed around the studio for other experiments. Price includes all materials and resource list (expect wool fabric, hookers bring your own) a gourmet country lunch, and color wheel. Some supplies and books will be available for sale.
